The Advisory Board Company's Compass Portal: An Integrated, Seamless User Experience  

The Advisory Board Company introduced an integrated portal for business intelligence applications.

The Challenge

Prior to teaming up with EastBanc Technologies, each of The Advisory Board Company’s Business Intelligence applications had a separate user repository. This meant that users needed to log in multiple times in order to acquire access to different applications. Additionally, their Business Intelligence applications were not integrated with each other on the front-end level; and due to different sets of technologies used in the legacy system implementations, end-users were subject to an inconsistent user interface (UI) experience.

The Approach

EastBanc Technologies designed and implemented a robust Compass Portal solution integrated with the Business Intelligence applications based on MicroStrategy’s BI Platform. The solution was built using the latest cornerstone technologies integrated with collaboration and knowledge sharing functions, such as team spaces, communities, document management, discussion forums, and Wikis.

The Results  

The Compass Portal was built on the IBM WebSphere Portal platform allowing for an easy integration of MicroStrategy BI applications. Informatica was used for the data extraction, import, transfer, and transformation between The Advisory Board Company’s various data stores. In addition to the implementation of a user interface organized as a set of configurable and customizable portlets within the WebSphere Portal, single sign-on access was enabled across the entire suite of apps.
