Speaking at the ITEXPO 2018 in Fort Lauderdale, FL, in February 2018.

The Washington, D.C. Department of For-Hire Vehicles (DFHV) is distinguishing itself as the first department of its kind to open its APIs to third party developers – a move that is democratizing the rideshare experience in our Nation’s Capital. The world of open APIs eliminates barriers, fosters collaboration, promotes innovations, utilizes customer insights, and streamlines operations. By applying this strategy, the DFHV has fostered an adaptive approach in which citizen developers are taking the lead to convert taxis to a digital infrastructure. This move aids all residents and visitors of the DC area by allowing more accessible, safer, and affordable rideshare experiences. Developers living in metropolitan areas throughout the United States can leverage open APIs, and the data they expose, and benefit as well, unlocking the value in taxis and all for-hire vehicles in their city. This session will discuss the benefits of incorporating an open API strategy as well as the technology framework that’s needed to make this a reality in every city.
